There are plenty of summer reading programs that are free and easy to join.
In addition to signing up for summer reading programs to earn cool prizes, a trip to the library or local bookstore can do wonders to spark a little interest. Sometimes being surrounded by books is all it takes to get kids reading more.

Brooks Reading Club :: is a personal favorite of mine. For every three books read, kids ages 12 and younger can earn two free tickets to a RoughRiders game plus a free kid’s combo meal from Raising Cane’s. Bring your reading log to the ticket window, and you’re all set!
Free Play’s Read It! :: summer reading program is designed to mimic Pizza Hut’s Book It! that a lot of us grew up with. You can earn swag and free admission to the arcade after you’ve filled out a reading log with five books. This program is for both children and adults, but children under 13 need their parents’ permission to fill out the online form.

Local Library
Most local libraries have a summer reading program. Be sure to check out your local library to see what they have to offer this summer. A lot of the library programs have opportunities for both children and adults.
- Allen Library :: Read 500 minutes or 50 books to win a free book. Adults can participate, too. Log your minutes read on its youth, teen, and adult reading logs.
- Frisco Library :: Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge awards prizes for 300, 600, and 1,000 minutes read. Register and log your minutes online.
- Plano Library :: Read 1,000 minutes in any format — books, eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, graphic novels, etc. — and earn a prize. Track your progress in 20-minute increments with the library’s log.
- Richardson Library :: The more hours kids read, the more chances they have at winning prize drawings, such as passes to Altitude Trampoline Park, StarCenters, and gift certificates to local restaurants, arcades, and more.
