Collin County Suburb Snapshot :: Prosper

prosper, tx collin countyMoving to Prosper and wondering about living there? This post is for you! Lived in Prosper for a while and aren’t really sure what all Prosper has to offer? This guide to Prosper, TX, is also for you!

When my family and I moved north of Frisco four years ago, we weren’t quite sure what to claim as our new hometown. If you mailed me a letter, it would be addressed to McKinney, but our children attend Prosper schools. And a stoplight a stone’s throw from the edge of our neighborhood is labeled as City of Frisco.

But over the last four years, we’ve truly found Prosper to be the place we spend most of our time. If you’re considering a move to Prosper or have ever wanted to explore the area further, allow me to introduce you to our home!

About Prosper, Texas

A small but rapidly growing town, Prosper runs along the Highway 380, spanning from Custer Road on the east to FM 423 to the west. Frontier Parkway separates Prosper from Celina to the north. It includes several master-planned communities such as Windsong Ranch, Gentle Creek, Star Trail, and La Cima, to name a few. Prosper schools are also highly rated, nearly all of which receive “above average” ratings on Great Schools.

One of the things we’ve noticed and appreciated is the town’s abundance of small or locally owned businesses. These are our top picks to support local Prosper establishments.

Prosper Restaurants

The Gin – Recently renovated and expanded, The Gin is a local favorite because of its fantastic patio and live music on weekends. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner six days a week, and the menu is very family-friendly. Don’t miss the garlic knots and pizza!

Mesa’s Mexican Grill – This is our family’s favorite Friday night spot for chips and dip and the very best fajitas around. (Okay, and maybe a margarita every now and then.) Mesa’s began in Prosper in 2013 and has expanded to add locations in both McKinney and Allen since. Their menu includes lots of options for picky kids as well, which is a huge bonus!

Hana Hibachi & Sushi – Hana is a favorite spot for our family to celebrate a birthday or special occasion. The hibachi chefs are hilariously entertaining, and the food is fantastic. Regular tables are also available if your family prefers sushi or more traditional Japanese food cooked in the kitchen.

Sauce – Located in the Gates of Prosper shopping center, Sauce is a favorite of my oldest. They offer fresh ingredients and unique pizzas, paninis, pastas, salads, and more, in a very family-friendly atmosphere. This is a great place to pop in after some shopping!

Honeylu’s Coffee – Honeylu’s Coffee is a local coffee shop located in the Kroger shopping center off Preston Road. They offer a huge variety of coffee, espresso, teas, smoothies, and several breakfast and lunch options. Don’t forget to grab a puppuccino for your fur baby!

Downtown Prosper Kids’ Activities

A Joyful Mess – This adorable art studio is located in old downtown Prosper and offers camps, classes, and birthday parties. We are somewhat biased since our elementary school’s art teacher is one of the two ladies running the studio, but it is a huge local hit with kids across Prosper. They also just launched Play-Doh kits and sensory bins in their adorable online shop!

Texas Amps & Axes Music School – This music shop and school offers voice and instrument lessons for all ages, both virtually and in person. My daughter recently began piano lessons after completing a free trial, and she absolutely adores her new teacher. Additionally, they offer Musikgarten classes for early childhood and even manage student bands.

My Batter’s Box – Offering batting cages, private/group lessons, and camps, this is a great spot for anyone looking to improve their softball or baseball game. While it’s certainly not a flashy place, this has been a great local resource for our baseball lovers.

Favorite Parks in Prosper

Town Lake Park (Greenspoint) – This is a fun place to fish, bike, and walk. There is a 27-acre stocked catch-and-release pond within steps of the park entrance, and it is a favorite of all my kids!

Frontier Park – This is THE park in Prosper, but I can’t recommend giving it a shot on a Saturday morning during the spring. If you dare, you will be fighting with all the sports parents for parking. In addition to all the sports fields, you will find a stocked fishing pond, huge playground structure, splash pad, pavilion, and biking/walking trail.

Allison Ezell
Allison and her husband, Blake, grew up in Dallas and made the move to the 'burbs in 2010 when she began teaching middle school in Frisco. After attending Texas A&M for her undergrad, Allison came back to Dallas to pursue her master’s in education from SMU. She has a huge love of writing and taught everything from preschool to eighth grade before obtaining her certification as a pediatric sleep consultant. Today, McKinney is home for her circus, which includes three children and a troublemaking lab. Allison and her husband are both passionate about orphan care and adoption, a calling that led them to their adopted son from China and to pursue their foster care licensing during the pandemic.
