Did anyone else do a happy dance when they felt those first few rays of spring sunshine? Between cold and flu season and winter weather, our family is welcoming springtime with open arms.
When the weather is warm, we love to be outside! Luckily, there are plenty of great places to explore nature right here in North Texas. Here are seven nature preserves and outdoor areas to enjoy nature in Collin County.

1. Connemara Meadow Nature Preserve
Stop and smell the roses at Connemara Meadow Nature Preserve in Allen. It is a conservancy of 72 acres filled with flowers and pollinators. Sign up for a guided trail walk or aerial yoga classes for both children and adults.
2. Dayspring Nature Preserve
Another great place to explore nature in Allen is the Dayspring Nature Preserve. Hike or bike on several wooded trails along Watters Creek, or have a picnic under the pavilion while the kids play on the playground.

3. Frisco Commons
Frisco Commons has picnic tables, an interactive playground, trails, a stocked fishing pond, as well as a spray park and splash pad.
4. Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Preserve
If you’re looking for an educational place to enjoy nature, check out the Heard in McKinney. Enjoy all things nature while learning about lemurs, bobcats, and foxes. Visit its events calendar for exciting upcoming events, such as nature story time, wetland canoeing adventures, and night hikes.

5. Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve
Enjoy all that nature has to offer right in the heart of Plano. Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve offers several hiking and biking trails as well as a pond open for kayaking and paddle boating. While you’re there, check out the zip line and adventure park for kids ages 10 and up.
6. Arbor Hills Nature Preserve
Another beautiful place to check out in Plano is Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, which also offers hiking and biking trails, free Wi-Fi, a large pavilion, and playground.

7. Spring Creek Nature Area
If you’re in Richardson, check out the Spring Creek Nature Area. Hike or bike trails with views of a winding creek and forest, then fuel up with a picnic lunch at the pavilion and watch the kids play on the playground.
