Spring break! Let’s talk about it. Collin County schools are off March 7–11, 2022. If you have plans, I’m jealous! If you’re going to play it by ear all week and hope for the best, WELCOME TO THE CLUB, SISTER. Just for you, here’s a list of fun local activities designed to stave off boredom, whining, and/or excessive infighting. Apply liberally, as needed.
Kid-Friendly Spring Break Activities in Collin County
Allen Community Ice Rink Star Wars Open Skate
March 5; 11:45am–1:45pm
Kids of all ages and experience levels are welcome to come skate today. Costumes encouraged! Cost is $5 entry, and $3 skate rentals. FREE skate rental with donation of a non-perishable seasoning, condiment, or sauce to benefit All Community Outreach.
Frisco Fire Safety Town
All Week; 10am–4pm
Frisco Fire Safety Town will be open this week for outdoor activities. Enjoy educational displays and a walk through the “town” along with ride time on a jeep or bike (must meet height requirements; see link for details). Fire Safety Town activities are best suited for elementary-aged children. Advance registration required and filling up fast. FREE!
Go Ape Treetop Adventure at Oak Point Park, Plano
All Week; 10–11:30am
A big one! Offered every day of Spring Break, it’s a 2–3-hour journey through a forest canopy full of suspended obstacles, a Tarzan swing, and breathtaking zip lines—all with an incredible view. This one is for bigger kids only: Minimum age 10/minimum height 4’7″. Tickets are $59 (age 10–15); $64 (16+).
Discount Specials at Strikz Frisco
All Week; Hours vary by day
Strikz has bowling, laser tag, an arcade, billiards, and more. The link takes you to all their specials: Early Birds, Slingin’ Sundays, Manic Mondays, Half-Price Tuesdays, and more. Spring Break is typically the perfect time to post up at a place like Strikz and let your kids go ’til they drop, although COVID obviously complicates that plan for some of us. Be safe and considerate at these indoor play places!
Similar options: Get half-priced games all day Wednesday at Dave & Busters (Frisco). Pinstack (Plano and Allen) also has a bunch of attractions and offers half-priced games on Tuesdays and Early Bird Bowling on Sunday.
Spring Break at the Heard
All Week; 9am–5pm
With mini camps, special Monday hours (they’re usually closed that day), and discounted Spring Break rates ($2 off regular admission for kids), the Heard is making it easy and fun to visit this week. Another cool option: Zip Line Day on March 12. Pre-registration is required for that one.
Canyons Climbing Gym Frisco
All Week; 9am–1pm
If you’re comfortable with indoor fitness activities, kids ages 6–14 can learn the basics of rock climbing with climbing games and friendly competitions. They can even get belay training! Register in advance; $45 per day.
Spring Break Takeover at Legacy Hall
March 7–18; 11:30am
Head to Legacy Hall for different activities every day for two whole weeks: field day, kids’ yoga, Professor Pop, the Crayola Experience, movies, animal meet & greets, princess and superhero lunches, and more. Here’s a handy guide to kid-approved menu items at their various eateries. Check the event link for a schedule of specific dates and details. With the exception of the character lunches, all these events are FREE!
Flying Into Spring Break at The Dinosaur Company
March 7–18; 12–2pm
Have you been to Billings Productions (aka The Dinosaur Company) in Allen before? It’s the only facility in the U.S. that builds life-size animatronic dinosaurs, giant bugs, and prehistoric predators. And it’s open to the public! For Spring Break, kids can learn about the “Insect of the Day” with fun activity stations and larger-than-life sculptural friends. It’s a come-and-go event; see link for a schedule of the week. $7 for ages 5–17. Free for adult caregivers and siblings under the age of 4.
Bonus idea: I’m always a proponent of the library for some wholesome, FREE fun.
