June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate LGBTQIA+ identities, culture, and experience, and it isn’t over yet! Looking for some ways to celebrate with your family before the end of the month? Look no further!
Attend a Local Pride Event
Although the Dallas Pride Parade and Festival takes place at the beginning of each June, there are still plenty of fun events coming up this month.
- Looking for a FREE way to get out of the house and celebrate Pride? Check out McKinney Pride at The Groovy Coop in Downtown McKinney on Friday, June 24, from 2–6pm. Complimentary drinks and light snacks will be provided at this daytime, weekday event, perfect for summer break!
- Resource Center will host their first annual Pride Carnival Extravaganza on June 25, from 3–7pm. Sponsored by Toyota, this event has interactive exhibits, carnival games, food trucks, live performances and FREE admission and parking!
- Head to Princeton. Tx will for a Pride celebration complete with face painting, yoga, and even a bounce house! Sunday, June 26, from 12–6pm.
- Plano’s 11th North Texas Pride Come As You Are Festival won’t be held until September 17, 2022, but it will be so worth the wait! This fundraiser will feature music, food, drinks, and activities for all ages, so be sure to mark your calendar.

Most of these can be found at your local library, or you can support Texas LGBTQ bookstores like Book Woman or The Little Gay Shop, a marketplace for queer artists and creators with a great inventory of rare and collectible books and magazines.
Get Involved!
Invite your kids to volunteer or attend programs with you at Resource Center, GALA Youth, or Lambda Legal. As a fellow mom once told me, “If there’s not something out there for you, create it yourself!” I was shocked to find community in places I had previously felt so alone. If I can do it, so can you!
Create New Traditions
Make a rainbow cake, tie dye shirts, or craft together. Give your little ones window markers or sidewalk chalk to draw rainbows. Listen to a family-friendly Pride Playlist and have a dance party at home.
However you show your Pride, your kids are sure to take away a warm message of acceptance, love, and embracing their individuality. Happy Pride, y’all!
