Howdy, lovely Moms. Welcome to July! Summer is flying by and, dare I say it, not as cumulatively scorching as I anticipated by this point? If you are in need of fresh activities for the fam, check out our guide below. We’ve got 4th of July intel and general good times all around Collin County. Have fun out there!
All Month :: Same as last month, but if you missed it, Studio Movie Grill has a Children’s Summer Movie Series with tickets just $1 each. July offerings are Horton Hears a Who!, Kung Fu Panda 3, Shrek the Third, and Madagascar. Check the link for specific dates and times for each movie.
All Month :: Ever been to the Texas Pool? Open Tuesday through Sunday, this is a saltwater, family-friendly, Texas-shaped pool. Historic and iconic. They are also doing a 4th of July celebration if you are interested! Check the link for hours of operation, as they differ depending on the day.
All Month :: Friendly reminder that there is a brand new play area open at Stonebriar for the little ones. Also there’s a little playtime event for kids 3+ at the Disney store every day in July at 3pm. Spend a couple hours in some free A/C, y’all.
July 3 :: The annual Hotter N’ Firecrackers 5K glow run is at 9pm tonight. Load up your family with all the glow sticks, LEDs, and fluorescent gear you can manage for a race through Frisco Square at 9pm. Pre-5k entertainment will be dachshund races, which… hello, cute! Check the link for registration info and maps.
:: 4th OF JULY EVENTS ::
- Frisco Freedom Fest has lots going on all weekend including a Children’s Expo, Taste of Frisco, Party in the Plaza, and a huge fireworks show after the FC Dallas game ends (about 10pm). Be sure to check the link for all the attractions and event details.
- Plano Parks & Rec Fun and Fireworks will be at Oak Point Park Amphitheater. Food trucks, DJ, and a fireworks show set to a music simulcast on 97.5 KLAK. Food trucks open at 5pm and DJ comes on at 7:30. Fireworks at 9:30. Here’s info on road closures and parking.
- Red, White and Boom Parade + Yankee Doodle Block Party in Historic Downtown McKinney and Craig Ranch. Parade kicks off at 10am, Block Party fun follows all afternoon, and starting at 5:30pm the McKinney Soccer Complex at Craig Ranch opens up for family activities and live music. Fireworks at 9:45.
- Independence Fest is technically not quite Collin County, but close! Flower Mound has a whole day of 4th fun planned, starting with the annual Children’s Parade at 10am. Decorate your trikes, bikes, and wagons with streamers! There’s also a vintage car show, live music, and fireworks. Here’s the FAQ with parking info, what you can bring, etc.
July 6, 13, 20, 27 :: Summer Fun Thursdays continue at Willow Bend mall. This month we get SciTech Discovery Center Mind-stretching Fun (7/6); The Amazing Bubble Man (7/13); comedians Slappy & Monday (7/20); and Comedy Magic by Todd McKinney (7/27). Free fun starts at noon each Thursday, showtime is 1pm.
July 7 :: Art Start at the Haggard Library in Plano is a hands-on art program for ages 3-6. Smocks and materials provided – it can get a little messy so don’t wear church clothes. Free tickets available first-come/first-served, starting 30 minutes prior to class. 11am to 12pm.
July 8 :: The Carrollton Public Library at Josey Ranch Lake hosts The Magical Toolbox with the Pipdillys for ages 6+. This is a musical comedy show with magic, circus tricks, and audience participation. 2-3pm. Free!
July 8 :: Ok, this is a random event but kinda great for anyone with bags of old junk mail forever waiting in the garage. Shred, White & Blue is literally a paper shredding party at Trinity Falls in McKinney. They’ll have face painting and bounce houses, a stilt walker and live music, and a local non-profit shredding company shredding all your hoarded papers from 11am to 2pm.
July 10-12 :: The Courtyard Theater in Plano presents Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad, Day. Showtimes are 10am, 11:30am, and 1pm each day. $10 per ticket.
July 11 :: The Haggard Library in Plano is also doing a cool LEGO Art Attack event for grades K-5. Learn about famous masterpieces, then try to recreate them with LEGOs. Free tickets available first-come/first-served, starting 30 minutes prior to class. 3-4pm.
July 16 :: I had to include this because my children are obsessed with tape, and I’ve learned my lesson about leaving any within their reach. Tape Town at Harrington Library in Plano is the perfect solution. Build a mini town of tape with toy cars, blocks, and more. 2-3pm. All ages!
July 19 :: Little House on the Prairie cosplay time! Heritage Farmstead Museum presents A Day at the Farm with hands-on activities like feeding chickens, old-timey laundry, and more. 10am to 1pm. Tickets $5 per person.
July 21 :: Floating on a lazy river while watching a movie? That’s the summer sweet spot. The Frisco Athletic Center will show Zootopia for their July Dive-In Movie, with gates at 8pm and water features on until showtime at sunset. Tickets sell out so check the link in advance!
July 24 :: Play Street Museum Frisco welcomes The Creature Teacher + assorted creatures for a fun, educational, and engaging presentation this evening. Get your tickets in advance, $25 per child. 6-8pm.
July 31 :: The Davis Library in Plano is having a LEGO Party today. Watch the LEGO Batman Movie and play with LEGOs. All ages. Noon-1:45pm, so you might want to eat lunch beforehand.
