Judy is in a mood, per usual, and she takes the audience on an entertaining adventure in ArtPower’s musical Judy Moody and Stink. In this hilarious musical event hosted by the Eisemann Center Family Series, Judy’s jealousy takes over when she hears her friend Jessica won the spelling bee contest and got her picture in the local paper. Meanwhile, Stink, Judy’s younger brother, is preparing for the “All-Time, World’s Worst, Super Stinky, Sneaker Contest.”
On the surface, the kids in Judy Moody and Stink exhibit all the drama real kids muddle through. But at its core are lessons every child needs, like true friendship, sibling rivalry, kindness, and finding your true self. And, starting at just $12 per ticket, this show is the perfect Sunday family outing.
Life Lessons from Judy Moody and ArtsPower
ArtsPower Touring Theatre invites the show-goers to think about probing questions before they enjoy the program. In their pre-show guide, they ask, “If you have younger siblings, do you always get along?” Also, “Do you notice how Judy and her younger brother speak to one another?” And finally, “Do you ever get jealous if someone else has success at something?”
Judy learns the value of compassion and thoughtfulness. After the show, children are invited to dive even deeper into the lessons this show presents, such as, “How do you think Judy’s attitudes and behavior changed from the start of the show to its end?”
While the storyline itself offers some powerful lessons for kids, the ins-and-outs of the production also provide some powerful lessons on working hard. The ArtsPower National Touring Theatre takes the audience into a behind-the-scenes look of various aspects of musical theater. The Judy Moody and Stink cast and stage manager (just five of them) are a tight-knit team. They manage their own costumes and props throughout the entirety of the show, and they set up and break down their own sets for their performances. The cast also performs upwards of 10 shows every single week. That’s hard work!
What Every Mom Needs and Wants
As a “theater mom,” finding shows like this one to attend warms me to my core. My kids love to perform, but they are also always up for a great show. In our car, instead of listening to Top 40 and in between Tik-Tok mashups, my teenagers are belting out Broadway tunes. It’s loud, they are proud, and I love it! If you’re like me, you’re always looking for the best experiences tied with powerful lessons. This is one of them.
