Are you ready for the most overstated-in-2020 sentence ever? This school year is likely going to look radically different for most of our kids than years past.
More children than ever are going to be spending the vast majority of their day this fall in front of a computer or at home in order to keep family members healthy. And while phonics and math can certainly be recreated at home, there are some valuable life skills that parents may want to consider outside options to support their child’s holistic learning.
Goldfish Swim School would love to be your first choice to meet those needs.
SUPPORTING LEARNING & LIFE SKILLS
So what exactly does swimming have to do with life skills? Plenty.
Let’s start with the obvious. Water safety is a big deal. In addition to everything else, learning to swim safely could, literally, save your children’s lives.
Swimming and water play also engage our children’s senses and allow a much-needed physical outlet that home-based learning programs might not build into their curriculum. It’s non-contact, uses the child’s whole body, and strengthens the child’s cardiovascular system by learning breath control.
When students are in a Goldfish swim class, they are also working on following directions, listening skills, waiting their turn, and self control—all things I’m fairly certain we can agree are skills every child could improve.
KIDS LEARN BEST AT PLAY
Last week, I took my youngest to his first class, and he was enthralled from the moment we walked in. From the lobby’s palm tree (or “Moana tree,” as he called it) to the fish tank to the colorful and welcoming decor, he was at ease and excited the whole time. This wasn’t something he had to do…it was truly just a fun, enjoyable Friday morning for a little boy!
His teacher was engaging, incorporated games into the lesson, and praised his efforts at every turn. He never thought it was a “lesson” of any kind. He truly just had fun!
SAFETY FIRST: IN & OUT OF THE WATER
In recent months, Goldfish has implemented safety procedures throughout the facility that ensure the safety of students, teachers, and parents. Following CDC guidelines, these include social distancing, face coverings, and limited class sizes. Additional cleaning and sanitation procedures are also in place for everyone’s safety.
