I am not a beauty expert. Hitting my mid-thirties made me want to start taking better care of my skin, though. Taylor Swift is in her mid thirties and looks 22! I’m not trying to reverse aging, but I know I need to moisturize. But where to begin?
Here are five local beauty companies with moisturizers, serums, and soaps that will swift you away to an earlier era.
1. Abundantly Aromatic
Abundantly Aromatic at the Farmers Market in Dallas sells handmade soaps, lotions, and haircare with scents that last all day, and even make the entire bathroom smell great! Its products are locally made by a mother-son team in small batches with organic shea butter, especially beneficial for those with sensitive skin. Smaller products, like bath bombs, start at $5, while soaps, lotion, and salt scrub range from $6 to $18 each. This is worth knowing: The company was started by a mom trying to teach her kids business skills!
Products to Check Out: For the guys, there are several beard care products. The sugar scrub has rave reviews, and the Tranquility essential oil for diffusers makes for a great housewarming gift.
Where to Find It: Find it at the Dallas Farmers Market or shop online.

2. Farmhouse Fresh Organics and Naturals
Farmhouse Fresh Organics and Naturals is a local, small business in the business of giving back. Each purchase helps save farm animals in its animal sanctuary. Speaking of farm, many of the botanicals that formulate the products are grown on a Texas farm, like microgreens, which can be found in Stunning Returns, an ultra rich bakuchiol butter high in antioxidants. There are trial-sizes for under $10, but its moisturizers run from $30-$60.
Products to Check Out: We’re big fans of face masks in our house, and it has hundreds of positive reviews. I want to try the Necks-Level smoothing neck cream and Watermelonaid jelly serum for wrinkles.
Where to Find It: FarmHouse Fresh products are in spas around the world. You can shop the products online, too, of course.
3. Hairitage Lotions and Hair Care Products
Hairitage was started by Youtube mom, Mindy McKnight, because her family struggled to find hair care products that worked for all of her children with different hair types. And while it was started in a different state, the McKnights and Hairitage are now based in Dallas. They recently branched out and started offering plant-based skin care products, too. Most products are under $20, making this one of the most affordable, natural brands out there.
Products to Check Out: My favorite Hairitage products are its shampoo, conditioner, and amazing body scrub!
Where to Find It: Find it at your local Walmart or online.
4. Sweet Home Bath and Body
Sweet Home Bath and Body is a local, small business out of Plano where founder Tina Ames handmakes everything. It’s toxin free, reasonably priced, and uniquely made in small batches. The shower steamers and small lotions start at $7, and the face serum is $14. Most of the products are under $20. You can catch her at local markets or order online.
Products to Check Out: Her body cream lotion made with shea butter and aloe vera, and I want to try the shower steamers and face serum made with hemp seed oil.
Where to Find It: At a Plano market with vendors? Look out for this shop! You can also order online here.
5. White Rock Soap Gallery
White Rock Soap Gallery is a small business in Dallas. Find handmade, vegan soaps that are full of nourishing ingredients like coconut and jojoba oil. The shampoo bars are $7, bath bombs are $7 – $12, and shampoo is $9 – $18. Not only does it offer skin care products, but also a balm for your pet’s paws and a small selection of home scent products. Check out the build-your-own swag box (perfect for a teacher appreciation gift!), starting from $18.
Products to Check Out: Shampoo bars reduce plastic waste, and these vegan ones are great for your hair. The bath bombs look good enough to eat, like the sprinkled chocolate strawberry bath doughnut.
Where to Find It: Visit its storefronts in Dallas, McKinney, and The Colony, or order online for quick shipping (less than two days!).

My Current Obsession
And y’all! I cannot end this post without talking about my favorite hair product this year: Hair tinsel. It’s all the rage with the kids around here. But, oh my gracious, it is expensive at the salon! Thankfully, this kit on Amazon makes it incredibly easy and cheap. You thread the tinsel through a bead and clamp the bead into your hair. Do your hair routine as usual and unclamp the bead when you’re done with it. It lasts for a couple of months.
