My quest for relaxation tools and time is constant. My desire to put my life into slow gear is at an all-time high.
Being a mental health practice owner has had me working overtime in the last year and a half, and like every other mom, the stress of last year has taken its toll.
Summer is a great time to pump the breaks and be intentional with downtime. To help, I’ve curated some of my favorite self-care, relaxation, and destress items!
Easy Relaxation Tools List
- Epsom Salts – Put a cup of Epsom salt plus a half-cup of baking soda in your very hot bath, and soak for at least 20 minutes. If you start to sweat, good! It means your body is ridding itself of some toxins. Be sure to drink lots of water afterward!
- Bamboo Bath Caddy – While I personally prefer silence while having a hot soak in the tub, sometimes a good book and glass of wine can help lessen the burden of life while you enter someone else’s world.
- A good glass of wine – Okay, since I brought up the idea of wine, I have to share my favorite winery: Inwood Estates Vineyards. You can’t find this wine in stores or buy online, but if you’re in the Fredricksburg area, stop by and grab a few bottles. You can thank me later!
- Lavender Eye Pillow – After your bath, rest this on your eyes and let the smells and weight do their magic. This would be a great time to take deep breaths and let your mind wander (an essential “working things out” strategy I tell my own clients.)
- “Sometimes You Forget You’re Awesome” Candle – While soaking and then relaxing afterward, light a candle to delight your senses. This is a fun one; it has a true quote that every Mom needs as a reminder.
- Body Moisturizer – When it comes to body moisturizer, my favorite is simple baby oil! Combine with a little of your favorite lotion, and your whole body will feel like a baby’s bottom. Try this Aveeno for a relaxing scent.
- Neck and Back Massager – Who doesn’t want to be kneaded like bread all over? These Shiatsu massagers are my all-time favorite. If you don’t already have one, here’s one you can try that’s pretty reasonably priced.
- Stress Less Cards – Need a little inspiration? Use these cards to help your stress and anxiety with simple exercises and meditations. Just pull one, and feel instantly motivated.
- Aloe Socks – I’m wearing these as I type! They are so comfy and warm, and they’re infused with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E.
- Relaxing Sounds – If you have an Alexa, ask her to play “Zen Meditation” and you’ll be transported into instant relaxation. No Alexa? Just take some deep breaths after your bath soak, and after you let your mind do some time traveling.
Giving To Yourself First
If you’re like me, you’re on the trek for some instant relaxation all the time.
The truth is, you give to others from your overflow. If you aren’t overflowing, you don’t have anything to give. You feel me, right?
Spend time giving back to yourself with some of my faves! Let the feeling of calm and relaxation take over your whole being.
