6 Ways to Reset Your Day as a SAHM

Let me begin by saying, being a mom is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love my daughter more than anything, and I love that I am able to spend 24 hours a day with her. But sometimes, I get overwhelmed and need to remember to breathe. Through my experience as a SAHM, I have found ways to help myself reset during the day because sometimes, I just need a minute.

How to Reset Your Day

Go for a walk.

When the day gets the best of me, sometimes getting outside and pushing the stroller is exactly what I need. The fresh air does me a lot of good, even when it’s 100 degrees out, and my daughter loves being outdoors. Even if getting my blood pumping doesn’t help me, the fact that the walk cheers up my toddler makes it worth it. On top of that, I burn some calories and that’s pretty much always a good thing.

Clean something.

I’ll be the first one to admit I do not enjoy cleaning. My never-ending list of things to clean can be one of my biggest stressors. However, tackling something on that list and completing it gives me a feeling of control that is usually the push I need to get myself through the rest of the day.

Nap.

This isn’t always an option. I get that. But if it is, and you need it, just do it. I vary rarely nap when my daughter does. When I do, it’s usually on the weekend and after my husband suggests it. I always wake up feeling so much better and ready to take on the next part of the day.

Listen to music.

Music has always been a big part of my life. It began early. I was always watching animated Disney movies as a child. Then I started piano lessons and dance classes which continued through my teenage years and college. It’s always been there. Now, my daughter also loves music. Whenever our day gets overwhelming, we turn on some music and I watch my daughter dance like the biggest goofball in the world. Trust me, that would cheer anyone up.

Hug your kids.

Kids are amazing and they give the best hugs. Somehow my 2-year-old knows when I need a hug the most and is always there and willing when I need her.

Drop everything and have fun.

I know it’s been said before, but it needs to be said again. At the end of the day, at the end of this life, the moments and the memories are what matter the most, not the to-do lists. So sometimes it’s okay to drop everything and go do something fun. You don’t have to abandon your project for good. Even a 30 minute or an hour break can make a world of difference. Take your kid out for ice cream, go see a movie, or hit the Starbucks drive-thru. Walk away temporarily so you can come back refreshed and ready to go.

I’m always open to new ways to help myself reset throughout the day. Have a suggestion that helps reset your day? Leave it in the comments!
