This pandemic has brought me to the breaking point. My kids and I have survived everyday. We aren’t doing daily crafts or baking. We aren’t cooking homemade meals or keeping up with educational experiences over the summer. We are surviving. I won’t be reorganizing my pantry or cleaning out my closet; I’ll be surviving with my kids.
Self care has never been more important for me during this trying time and I have found a few unique ways to take care my mind, body, and spirit.
Self-Care Tips for Moms Surviving Quarantine
Hide. Yes, hide from your kids, just for a few moments. I usually hide M&Ms in the laundry room and indulge for a few quiet moments.
Eat in your car. There’s nothing like eating in peace and not having to get up every two minutes during a meal. Order from your favorite restaurant and pickup curbside or order to go. Just sit in your car and blast your favorite music and EAT in silence.
Indulge your sweet tooth. I have eaten so much ice cream the past few months, but who cares. We are all wearing our pjs or sweats anyway, so indulge in your favorite treats and forget about the guilt.
Work out/Find your quiet space. If working out is your go-to stress reliever or, like me, you’re too tired to even think about working out, find something to do for yourself. Spend a few moments at the end of your day and do something for yourself with no one to bother you. Turn everything off and just sit in the quiet and enjoy alone time and peace.
Virtual girls’ night. The pandemic has brought the techies out in all moms, use your phone or computer to have a virtual video girls’ night. Pour a glass of wine (or two) and chat and gossip the night away. If you can’t be together physically, this is the best way to vent and connect with girlfriends wherever you are.
Mom-ing is hard, but mom-ing during a pandemic has challenged us all to our limits. Make sure and make some time for yourself, because we all know you can’t pour from an empty cup.
