It’s that time of year again. My husband and I usually get our flu shots first, then take the kids to their pediatrician a few weeks later for theirs. Sometimes we’ve even had to wait for the next flu clinic. This year, however, the kids are older and so we all went together to our neighborhood CareNow urgent care clinic. CareNow offers discounted flu shots for just $20.
Influenza, or flu, can easily turn serious, especially in older adults, children, and people with chronic health conditions. The best way to prevent a case of the flu is a yearly influenza vaccine, or flu shot.
A little bit about the flu shot:
Flu vaccines help your body fight off influenza viruses. Many viruses can cause flu. Flu vaccines are reviewed yearly to be sure the one you receive targets the most common flu viruses. While a vaccine cannot guarantee you won’t get the flu, it will make flu symptoms milder. Unfortunately, last year I put off my flu shot and of course got hit with Flu B right after Christmas. It was horrible and I vowed to always get my flu shot in a timely manner moving forward. If nothing else, to lessen the symptoms if I ever did get it again.
For the last several years, the CDC has consistently recommended you get your annual flu vaccine by the end of October. Most cases hit between December and February, so it’s highly recommended to receive a flu shot by the end of October or as soon as the vaccine becomes first available. CareNow urgent care clinics are all currently stocked with the flu vaccine at a discounted rate.
