When I was pregnant with my firstborn, one of the things that I was most excited about was putting him in a Moses basket. There was something so fun about being able to lay a tiny newborn in a seagrass basket. We actually have two of these great baskets, the larger one is meant to hold the baby as they sleep and the other one was meant as a changing pad. The large one was gifted to us by my grandmother for our first, and the changing one was gifted to us by her for our second, so they hold sentimental value.
When our youngest recently outgrew the basket, I found myself unwilling to part with it, so I came up with four fun and practical ways to repurpose a Moses basket when your baby has outgrown it.
Anyone that knows me knows that I love baskets and have a large collection of them. One of my favorite sayings is, “You can always use a basket.” It only made sense to me to find a use for these beautiful Moses baskets, too. It seemed a shame to have them just sitting in the closet collecting dust and I didn’t have any friends who were pregnant at the time. If you’ve used a Moses basket for a baby of your own, you know that phase is very short, and you are left with a big basket to find a place to store.
Tabletop Décor
I’m always looking for a fun tabletop décor idea. I love to mix up my décor and this is a fun and simple way to add a bit of character to any space. In this picture, I styled it in our entryway, which I really love. It makes a great place for guests to place their keys, wallets, etc. You could also easily use this as a centerpiece on your dining table.
Laundry Basket
This one seemed so obvious to me once I started to use it this way. So much so that I was kicking myself for not using it for this purpose in between my kiddos! The size of the larger basket is perfect for holding a medium-size load of laundry.
Stuffed Animal Holder
This one is a classic and I had seen it on social media several times when my firstborn was still using his Moses basket. It’s the perfect size to catch all of those bulky stuffed animals that seem to always be scattered around kids’ rooms. In addition to stuffed animal storage, you could use the basket to store other toys as well.
Serving Tray
Searching for the perfect charcuterie serving tray for your next event? Search no further than your kiddo’s closet. This idea is a really funky spin on the traditional spread and will add a fun element to your party. I use my changing Moses basket for this one.
I hope you have been inspired by these fun and practical ways to repurpose a Moses basket. Do you have a Moses basket that you’ve repurposed? I would love to hear what you do with your retired one!
