First, I love being a mom. I love my children; I worked really hard to raise them from helpless infant to the (almost) self-sufficient kids they are today. With that being said . . . I don’t enjoy all the tasks of motherhood. After having this discussion with a group of friends, we came up with a list of things that we hate about being a MOM.
1. I Hate Being “The Snot Wiper”.
Mainly, I hate my kid’s snot. I hate the stage of blowing their nose all the time, where the only thing that separates you from their snot is a 2 ply Kleenex. It’s not enough; it’s gross.
2. I Hate Preparing All the Meals.
Do they really have to heave a meal 3 times a day? And snacks! I’m in the kitchen ALL DAY LONG! Are my kids the only ones who want to eat everything but what you actually prepared for dinner? (No, just mine?)
3. I Hate that Pinterest Bullies.
Pinterest makes me do stupid birthday parties. We’ve all been there, the 1st birthday party, it’s usually the best out of all the parties! I have the attitude of you’ve seen that I can do a Pinterest party so now I don’t have to do it again!
4. I Hate Hearing My Name Repeated.
Mom. Mom. Mom! Mom? Mama? Mama!
5. I Hate Not Having Any Privacy.
I constantly have a visitor in the bathroom. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing: going potty, taking a shower, taking a bath, changing, or doing my makeup. One of my favorite lack of privacy stories is when I was washing my face in the bathtub and when I finished, I looked down at my feet and there sat my naked little son. Welcome to the party, son!
6. I Hate the Booty-Wiping.
Newborn wiping doesn’t bother me. Those tiny little hineys never get old! It’s the 6 months to potty-trained age booties I don’t want to wipe. I don’t care for the diaper changing stage either.
7. I Hate the Car Seats.
The unbuckling and buckling. There’s the forcing the unruly child in the car seat (how are they so strong?). There’s the magic trick of transporting the sleeping child from the car seat to a bed without waking them up. And my top reason to hate a car seat — Ready? The potty accident in the car seat.
Have you ever taken a car seat apart? I’m almost in tears thinking about removing the seat from the car, washing the cover, vacuuming the crumbs out the seat, Clorox wiping the plastic, putting that sucker back together and then reinstalling it into the car!
8. I Hate Doing the Laundry of Two Extra People.
There was a point in time that my daughter would change 3x a day (and all 3 outfits would be dirty.) and my son would only wear a certain pair of pants. I was doing laundry like a mad woman. Laundry is my mothering weak-point; mainly because I hate doing it.
9. I Hate the Messes.
I hate to wake to a clean, peaceful house only to find it in shambles an hour into the morning!
10. I Hate that My Babies are Growing Up So Fast.
The days really are long and the years really are short. My daughter will be in the 3rd grade next year and my baby boy will start kindergarten. This mama is having a hard time imagining life without a baby at home! Time really does fly when they start attending school!
