5 Easy and Trendy Haircuts for the New Year, New Mom in YOU

As moms, we give, give, give, and give some more. Most of the time we give so much of our time, energy, and brainpower to everyone and everything EXCEPT ourselves. And we’re tired. TOO tired. Too tired to shave our legs, too tired to apply eyeliner, too tired to paint our nails, and DEFINITELY too tired to put effort into our hair. It’s a vicious cycle. We make sure everything is going smoothly on the home front, that everyone is clean, fed, healthy, and happy but at the end of the day we throw in the towel on our own physical and mental well being.

It’s 2017. A brand new year. A year to do something for YOU.

As moms we work best linearly (because we all know if we don’t attack thoughts and tasks from start to finish, mom brain will take over and we end up walking into the garage with a dust mop and a can of silly string without the slightest idea why). We clean the house from back to front, put the children to bed youngest to oldest, and check off our to-do lists from top to bottom.

With that said, let’s start at the top. Our hair.

Here are 5 haircuts that are easy AND trendy:

#1 The LOB. Otherwise known as the long bob, this hairstyle is extremely manageable and flattering on all face shapes. It’s not quite short and not quite long and can be dressed up or dressed down. The great thing about the LOB is that your hair is still long enough to throw up in a ponytail on those crazy get-out-of-the-door-STAT mornings, but short enough to feel and look sassy. Run the flat iron through it to look sleek and sexy for date night or sport some curls when your feeling spunky for Wednesday’s PTA meeting.

#2 The Asymmetrical Bob. This is another fashion forward play on the classic bob where one side is noticeably longer than the other. The short side will typically be long enough to tuck behind your ear, while the longer side will reach your chin or below. This cut gives other short styles a run for their money. It’s quick to style – if your hair is naturally curly, simply add some product and scrunch, diffuse or flat iron. If naturally straight, air dry or blow out with a large round brush for volume.

#3 Long Layers. If your hair is long and the length is weighing you down but you’re not quite up for a drastic change, add in some long layers. This will bring style and movement to your luscious locks. Have your hairstylist include some face framing to really make the cut pop. For these layers, think present day Jennifer Aniston, NOT circa 1995. We definitely do not want to bring back “the Rachel.”

#4 The Pixie. For those of you who love short hair and can rock it like nobody’s business, this is your cut. It’s probably the most low maintenance hairstyle out there. Do a quick run through with the blow dryer and pop in some texture cream – there’s nothing to it!  Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence, and Halle Berry have all sported it, so why not you?!

#5 The Blunt Cut. If you’ve done the layers, aren’t up to trying the pixie, and your flatiron is your go to, the blunt cut is perfect. The length of this cut can adjust to personal preference, but the idea is that all of the hair is noticeably one length. People with straight hair will find this cut low maintenance, as the straighter the hair, the more obvious the bluntness. For those who were born curly or wavy, this can work for you too! It will just require a little extra effort in the flat ironing and product department. Add in some blunt bangs and you’ll be the epitome of trendy strutting through 2017.

I left my posse of hairstylist friends back in California, so since I moved here I have tried out a variety of salons. Here are the ones that do some great work in the Collin County area if you don’t already have a stylist of your own or are new to the area:

  • Salon 209, McKinney
  • Rayfield and Company, downtown McKinney
  • Tangerine Salon, multiple locations; I personally tried the Allen location.

The next time you go for it and get that new ‘do, post a picture on Facebook or Instagram (who can resist a post salon selfie?!) and tag @collincountymomsblog to show off the new YOU.
