Are you moving to Fairview? This is for you. Do you live here and are just looking for something new to do? This guide to Fairview is also for you! We moved to the Oakwood Estates neighborhood of Fairview about two years ago. We had been living in Dallas and were drawn to Fairview for the exemplary schools in Lovejoy ISD, the safety of the town, the strong community, and the open spaces.

Fairview: Small Town Living with Big City Amenities

Fairview’s town motto is “Keeping it Country.” The town has many big city amenities, and is close to Highways 75 and 121, but its gently rolling terrain, horse farms, one-acre (and larger) lots, vast hardwoods, and expansive open spaces really make it feel like an escape. The town abides by a “dark skies” lighting ordinance designed to preserve views of the night sky. The wildlife is abundant, and we regularly see hawks, owls, bobcats, armadillo, skunks, snakes, and spiders! It took this city girl a beat to get used to all of my new “friends,” but now I get excited to see them and the kids love it, too! Driving through Fairview can be breathtaking, and you’re sure to pass farms with horses, cows, longhorns, llamas, goats, or pigs daily!

Fairview Acreage

Many of the town’s developed subdivisions consist of one- and two-acre home sites. You won’t find board-on-board fences here, but rather low, open-style fences designed to allow you to enjoy the beautiful landscape and get to know your neighbors!

Lovejoy ISD Schools

The majority of the town is in Lovejoy ISD, which includes three elementary schools, an intermediate school, a middle school, and Lovejoy High School. Lovejoy will remain a district with just one high school, with 9-12th grade enrollment not to exceed 1,900 students. The district is ranked as one of the best in the state, and consistently receives both state and national recognition. Each student is made a priority, and the district provides opportunities for every child to strive and explore their individual interests. One of the things I love best about the district is that it will never get over-populated and class sizes will remain small, yet it offers a rigorous curriculum and extensive extracurricular activity options that give every child an opportunity to thrive and feel included.

Fairview Safety

Fairview is a very safe place to live with extremely low crime rates. Although safety is their number one concern, the police, fire and EMS departments have a relationship with the members of the community and it’s not uncommon to see them tossing a football with some kids or shaking hands at a neighborhood get-together. If you have a question about anything in the community, from how to get a new trash can to what to do if you think you have a water leak, just placing a simple phone call to the town hall gets you to a live person who is happy to help.

Fairview Community

It’s hard to fully describe the amazing sense of community in Fairview. Before we even moved into my house, I had emails from over a dozen neighbors and moms welcoming me to the area, setting up play dates and offering advice and answers to my questions. I quickly joined the Lovejoy Preschool PTA, which is a great way to get involved and meet other moms with young children in the Lovejoy school district. If you have school-aged children, you will find countless ways to get involved with your child’s classroom, school, or district. It’s normal to see golf carts cruising the neighborhoods, and impromptu play dates are a common occurrence when you head out on a walk!

Things to Do in Fairview

We’ve established that Fairview is beautiful, so now it’s time to get out and enjoy it!

The Heard Museum is a 289-acre wildlife sanctuary and natural science museum for the primary purpose of educating children about nature. It is home to more than 240 species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, and nearly 150 species of wildflowers and other plants.

Willis Market is a roadside stand where you can purchase seasonal veggies and plants, eggs, pecans, local honey, and jarred goods. The stand operates on the property of the Willis Farm, so you’re buying straight from the source! The farm has been in the Willis family for 40 years and the stand has been operating for over 25 years. You’re sure to feel like family when you visit!

Roadrunner Trail is a beautiful winding trail that’s accessible through a playground on one side, or from the bridge on Meandering Way on the other. The paved trail is walkable, but is also fun with scooters or bikes.  

Beaver Run Park has a lot to offer with its playground equipment, covered pavilion with picnic tables, basketball court, and horse shoe pits, but perhaps what makes this park most special is the stunning half-mile paved trail and several hundred feet of nature trail connected to it. Enjoy all the beauty Fairview has to offer on these trails, which wind and connect to several nearby neighborhoods. Make sure to take a moment to enjoy the large deck overlooking the beaver pond!

Fairview is home to Heritage Ranch, a golf course open to the public and a premier gated community for active adults 55+. My in-laws live here and there is always some sort of fun activity at the clubhouse or pool!

Fairview Restaurants & Entertainment

The Fairview Town Center, located at the northeast corner of Stacy Road and 75, offers many family-friendly attractions.

Gloria’s Latin Cuisine has several locations throughout Dallas and Texas, but what makes this one unique is that its patio opens up to the Fountains of Fairview, where your kids can play on the lawn or run through the fountains while you keep a safe eye on them from your table—no judgement if that table has a margarita sitting on it!

Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen has recently opened and is a casual diner serving classic homestyle comfort food and Southern cocktails.

Polka Dot Party & Play is an indoor play area specializing in active and imaginary play for toddler and preschool-aged children. Let your children play while you enjoy a complimentary coffee!

iPic Theaters is a fun place for a date night, family movie, or girls’ night out! They offer delicious food and drink options delivered to you at your seat, as well as a lively bar in the lobby should you want to grab a drink or some bites before or after your show. And did I mention how comfortable their seats are? You may find yourself catching a few zzz’s during the movie if you’re not careful!
