Do You Have a Cleaning Day?

I know a lot of people have a freezer cooking day and a shopping day and a craft/project day. But what about a cleaning day? With Spring Cleaning season just behind us, taking a look at your weekly schedule and how you go about cleaning is a good idea.

Over the years I’ve gone through different phases and methods for getting the weekly chores and daily life stuff done. I’m a fan of getting things done quickly and efficiently so I can do other stuff with my time. I don’t want to spend my life cleaning or cooking, although I do enjoy both; I just want to do more than that!

A few years ago I implemented a cleaning day into my week and I have loved it. I take one day a week, and set it aside to do all the laundry and clean the house. Then the rest of the week I keep things tidy but I’m all done with the big stuff after that one day. There are a few exceptions and tweaks I make, like when there is just too much laundry to complete in one day or if my toddler makes a big mess and I have to throw a load in to avoid stains. But the freedom I feel from the one- day-a-week clean is so worth that one big day of work!

I also use this as a way to limit myself on cleaning. My perfectionist nature takes over and if I let myself, I can spend the whole week cleaning my house. To avoid driving myself crazy, I limit myself to one day, so if it doesn’t get done this week, it will be the first thing on the list next week! So what do I include in my cleaning day? Here’s a list of the basics.

Cleaning Day Basics

-Change the sheets
-Laundry
-Vacuum
-Dust
-Sweep
-Mop
-Clean the bathrooms
**Clean the blinds (once a month)
**Clean the windows (once a month)

I still sweep around the table after meals, but that’s mostly it for cleaning for the week! I love the freedom of taking cleaning off my to-do list the rest of the week, and it’s nice to have the whole house clean at once.

So how about you? What’s your method for cleaning your house? Have you found a schedule that works well for you and your family?
