Easter is approaching, which means it’s time to start collecting items for Easter baskets. I like to fill them with items my kids need for the upcoming spring and summer months and throw in little treats to show they are loved. I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite easy Easter basket ideas (with links to make it easy to purchase!).
Clothing Essentials
Easter baskets are the perfect opportunity to stock up on summer clothing essentials. I like to throw in a swim suit, sandals, and maybe a tank top or two. This always helps get them excited and prepared for warmer weather. You can also add necessities, such as pajamas, socks, and shoes. We are going to throw in a pair of Natives for each of our kids this year.
We also include accessories. From hair clips to jewelry to sunglasses, accessories are great basket stuffers. I love these floral claw clips (perfect for Spring)!
Favorite Treats
Although I try to stay away from filling their baskets with a ton of sugar, I always like to throw in a treat or two. Some of our favorites are Zollipops (suckers containing an ingredient that actually fights cavities!), apple sauce pouches, pretzel bags, and gummy bears.
Outdoor Toys
We have toddlers in our house who are always stoked to get bubbles and chalk. It’s the little things, right? The Target dollar spot always has cute Easter-themed bubble wands (for $1!) this time of year. If your kids are also into bubbles, check out these bubble blasters! Other ideas are a jump rope, balls, or little toy trucks. Our kids absolutely love the Groovy Wubble Bubble Balls!
Books
I always search thrift stores throughout the year for cute holiday-themed books, save them, and gift them on the holiday. You can also find inexpensive books on Amazon. It has a great selection of Easter books!
A few faves of ours include:
- It’s Not Easy Being a Bunny by Dr. Seuss
- Pete the Cat and the Easter Basket Bandit by Kimberly and James Dean
- Little Blue Truck’s Springtime by Alice Schertle

Small Toys
I don’t like to go overboard with toys, but I l try to include one small toy per kid. Whether it be a small Barbie, an animal figurine, or a toy truck, it will be the highlight of your child’s day. I love this LEGO set to build your own rabbit, and my daughter really enjoyed playing with this matching and sorting egg carton a few years ago.
Art Supplies
Can you ever have enough art supplies? In our house the answer is NO! This year I’m adding a coloring book (like this one!) to the Easter baskets, plus some coloring pencils. For older kids, you can throw in gel pens and fun sticky notes or writing pads. You can also find themed activity books and art kits at stores like Target and Wal-Mart.
Stuffed Animals
I’ll admit, giving stuffed animals as gifts is controversial in our house (because our kids already have like four buckets full).
However, it’s reaaaalllly hard to resist the adorable stuffed bunnies. Squishmallows are really popular with kiddos, like this cute little parakeet or bunny.
Gift Cards
I get that it’s more difficult to shop for older kids, but I know one thing they always love is a gift card to their favorite restaurant or store. You could also throw in a small amount of cash.
Trading Cards
Our friends kids who are elementary age are obsessed with Pokémon cards. You can get this package of 50 for less than $10 on Amazon! You can also get other trading cards or collectible items.
Cup
For our kids, we always like to throw in a new cup. I love Thermos Funtainers because they have so many designs to choose from – whether your child is into Frozen or Spiderman! If you have older kids, you could also get a Stanley or coffee mug.
Beach Items
We always add in a few beach items for our upcoming summer vacations and trips to the pool. Some suggestions are a beach bag, hat, beach toys (like this backpack full of sand castle tools), and a new beach towel.
Easter baskets are a fun way to celebrate the holiday and make your kids feel special and loved. I hope this list gave you a few ideas!
