I was fortunate to begin 2019 with an amazing yoga class led by my dear friend. She challenged us to find our “sankalpa“, our truth to live by for the year. She even provided two cards and an envelope so we could write them down: one that we would keep, and the other that we give to her in an envelope addressed to ourselves and she will mail it to us as the year goes on. I knew right away my word for the year would be: GROWTH. I specifically knew that this year would be a year of growth in knowledge and growth in understanding. What I didn’t know or expect was just how powerful the choice of the word ‘growth’ would be for me.
Every time I have come to the mat since January 1, I am flooded with all of these words that start with the letter G. It is like my body, my mind, and God have chosen a letter for me to live my year by. It is wild and I am so grateful for it.
My “G” Words for the Year
Growth – the word that started it all. I am going to grow this year. I am specifically going to grow in my knowledge and understanding.
Gratitude – I am so grateful for this life given to me, for the people who are in it, for the body I was given (that I think I am finally starting to truly take care of it). Its only taken me 31 years.
Guidance – I still very much need guidance in my life and the journey I am on. And I am okay with that! I am actually grateful for it.
Genuine – I strive to do everything genuinely. I want to surround myself with genuine people. When we are most genuine we are most real.
Grounding – Whatever it is that grounds you, find that. I am still learning mine. But I am figuring it out and finding my peace. Find what grounds you and hold it tight.
Grace – Openly give grace. Give grace to yourself and give grace to others. This little word has so much power.
I began the year focusing on the word growth and as each month passes, I am finding myself drawn to so many powerful words that start with the letter G. I challenge you to take a second look at how 2019 is going for you so far, and see if maybe there is a special little letter that is following you around! I would love to hear your sankalpa and your letter!
