Collin County Moms is thrilled to present “Honest Moms,” a series on authentic, vulnerable looks at motherhood and life in general: the good, the bad, and the ugly—what we love, what we struggle with, and what we are working through—all as a way to connect with YOU. We want to know what you’re going through, what encourages you, what helps in the times of confusion, chaos, and solitude. We are all in this together, and our community is a strong one that seeks to lift others up.
Over two years ago, I was a brand new first-time mom and I was lost. I had a brand new baby boy who I adored, but I felt lost. All the books and advice from my friends weren’t helping me through my unplanned C-section, and the exhaustion and pain I was feeling everyday from motherhood. I had postpartum depression, I was struggling with breastfeeding, and felt like I got lost in the process. My doctor told me to get out and socialize with other moms like me and talk about the issues I was having, to let them help me and get advice from real moms. I didn’t know where to turn, where I could go to find moms like me, who would I feel connected with, and be able to share my emotions with…again, I felt lost.
I stumbled upon Facebook and a college classmate had posted about a moms event, speed dating. It was Dallas Moms Speed Dating, to be exact, and a chance to meet moms in a casual environment (at the Brewery, a perfect location for moms) to discuss motherhood and to just get out of the house for a night. I met some of the most amazing moms in Dallas and will never forget that night. We came from all different backgrounds, working moms, stay-at-home moms and first-time moms, just like me. I found my sisterhood. I could relate and bond with all of them. I found a group of women who “got” me and all my problems. I received so much sage advice from these experienced moms and took it all in. I met three moms that lived around my area and we exchanged information, and we are all still friends today.
We have spent birthdays together, celebrated new babies, and have just been there for each other through motherhood. I found my tribe. Dallas Moms Blog saved my sanity and gave me a group of women to lean on when I needed it the most. I am now a contributor for Collin County Moms and get to write about motherhood and meet other amazing moms through playdates and meet ups. No matter what type of mom you are, spread your wings and meet other moms. As women, we need all the support we can get in motherhood, so don’t be afraid; put your fancy pants on and get out there!
