What Mamas Really Want for Mother’s Day

Flowers, jewelry, and candy…oh my!!! Yes, those are always amazing. My personal preference: flowers with a little sprinkle of diamonds! LOL!!

While those are all wonderful ways to surprise mom on Mother’s Day, here are some other creative ways to spoil mama this May.

1. A “Personal” Day

All of us mamas, regardless of whether we stay home or work full time, have a laundry list (literally) of things to do on a daily basis. If we are lucky, we get about 3–5 tasks accomplished. Mama would probably love a “personal” day to do virtually whatever she pleases.

It might sound simple, but a solo trip to Target or Hobby Lobby with a latte sounds absolutely glorious! Throw in a Starbucks gift card when you tell her to take the day off.

2. Spa Day

Send Mama away for an hour (or two…or eight) of relaxation to get a massage, a facial, or even the all-time favorite mani/pedi. This is a great way to show us how much we are appreciated! Another bonus would be to throw in a scented candle to keep the soothing relaxation going even after she gets home.

Find your local nail salon, or treat mom to a first time visit to Massage Envy or Hand & Stone, to give you some options to choose from!

3. Extra Sleep

Here’s a FREE way to spoil mama this year: Let her sleep!!! Sleeping in or taking a nap are even more restful when we’re not woken up by a child screaming or laughing or making noise right in our faces. It’s a dream come true to have a few extra hours of uninterrupted sleep.

When Mama does wake up, maybe surprise her with snuggles and breakfast in bed or a refreshing afternoon snack and beverage.

4. A Clean House

There is nothing more frustrating than a hard day’s work cleaning house only to have it last for 15 minutes. Treat Mom to a house cleaning on you! It can be a few simple tasks like washing and putting away all of the dishes for a week and making sure the trash is always empty and toys are always picked up before bedtime.

You can also give her the time off she deserves with a deep house cleaning by a professional.

5. Handmade of Personalized Anything

Finally, while all of these things above are amazing, nothing beats a handmade or personalized gift! These are the things that we moms will treasure forever and ever.  Homemade cards, handprints in salt dough or paint, picture frames, even personalized coffee mugs would bring us to tears this Mother’s Day.

Some personal favorites: anything from Personalization Mall or take the kiddos to paint something special at Color Me Mine. You can also run to Target or even The Dollar Tree for some construction paper, paint, and markers. Print a picture of the kids and make a handmade card or frame!

Although she always thought she would live in California forever, close to everyone and everything she knew, Heather took a leap of faith when her husband since 2010, Sean, informed her that his company was relocating to Allen, Texas. Heather and Sean moved to McKinney in January 2016 with their curly-haired, spirited, Lightning McQueen-obsessed, toddler son, Luc (joined the world in October 2014) and their obnoxious, Puggle, Teemu. She is enjoying every moment of her experience in North Texas and building friendships that she believes will last forever. A former advertising professional, Heather is now a stay-at-home, work-from-home (part time) mom, wife, friend, and follower of Christ, growing her faith each and everyday. She recently started studying to get her real estate license and is very ambitious to begin a new career that allows her the freedom to build her own business, while enjoying all of the little things that everyday motherhood and life have to offer. She loves to eat and has a passion for cooking, but believes that there is always a little “something” to add to any recipe she finds to make it her own. She loves fitness and living an all-around healthy lifestyle. When everyone in the house goes to bed, you will find her with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee (decaf of course, that late at night) in her hand, editing her daily iPhone photographs for her family in California, Instagram, and Facebook, while “pinning” the night away.
