I love to have a clean house! One of my favorite things about being a wife and mother is taking on the role of caring for our home. I truly enjoy getting things done and keeping our home in order! I have found that having a child running (crawling in my case) around can throw a bit of a wrench in keeping the orderly home I so desperately desire. So I’ve put together some tips and tricks that help solidify a cleaning routine and help you to love doing it!
CATEGORIES + SCHEDULES
Does this sound way too Type A for you?! I apologize, this is MEGA Type A. The single most effective way I keep my house clean is by scheduling out what tasks will get done on which day of the week. First, there are some things that have to get done every. single. day. Other things only need tending to once a week and then others just monthly. I break down all the things I need done into those three categories. The “Daily” list is basically just maintenance, the things that must get picked up/cleaned always. The “Weekly” chores are split up into each week day and I do a “Monthly” chore each Friday. Breaking it down just makes it doable. Without doing this, I feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to start!
15 MINUTE TIDY TIME
As for those pesky daily tasks, I usually try to get the dishes/kitchen done before my son wakes up, but then I try to pick up toys a few times a day. My son is napping twice a day right now so right when he goes down I set a timer on my phone for 15 minutes. I go to each room of the house and tidy everything. I fold blankets, put toys away, sort through mail, make beds, etc. I can get a LOT done in 15 minutes.
SECOND NAP HUSTLE
Self-care is SUPER important as a mother. I know, as I am a stay at home mom, it’s easy to forget about so I make it a point to practice self-care during my son’s first nap of the day. But during his SECOND nap – it’s go time! I spend that time working on whatever chore I have planned for that particular day of the week. And the best feeling is when I finish the day’s cleaning, my child is still asleep and I get a moment to watch a show or read or just lounge without having to look at the mess around me!
FAVORITE PRODUCTS
The last tip I have on putting together your own cleaning routine is to find some products that you love and go to town! To me, there’s nothing like grabbing my favorite scent of Mrs. Meyer’s spray (Basil and Lavender currently competing for the #1 spot) and getting to work on my kitchen! Find products that make you happy and implement them into your own cleaning routine! I have a few favorites that I’ll list below, as well as some favorites of my fellow contributors.
