Topgolf: Topping the List of Family Fun this Summer

This post has been sponsored by Topgolf. All opinions are 100% my own!

Confession: Golf looks boring, and I’ve never wanted to spend what precious time I have with or without my kids figuring out how to swing a long, metal stick at some teensy, tiny ball whilst it goes flying and I lose sight of it (because eyesight in my 40s is…impaired, but that’s for a different post). However, it was Father’s Day, and since my husband plays golf almost every weekend, I decided to do a good wife deed and round up the entire family for a few hours of Topgolf fun for him. I wasn’t looking forward to it, but oh, how I was surprised!

This turned out to be a family fun day for ALL of us.

On the short walk to our table, I was already scoping out the place, wondering what my three young kids (all girls!) would be able to do when they quickly tired of golf. I’d stay and endure it no matter what, but they’d surely want a break from the mundane. To my surprise, our two hours of play time passed much more quickly than I thought it would. The music bumped, the lights flashed, and the entire feel of Topgolf was way more thrilling than I expected. And not only did I love the experience, but my kids did too—they were BEGGING to stay longer. The great news is, with Topgolf’s Family Fun Pass, they’ll be able to play to their heart’s content all summer long!

What Surprised Me about Our Family Trip to Topgolf:

1. It was well over 90 degrees when we visited, but I didn’t mind because there were fans and misters that made me feel like we weren’t sitting on the surface of the sun. This isn’t a small thing! Had I or my kids been miserable in the heat, it would have surely ruined the whole day.

2. You can probably tell I don’t like being put out, and I’m not what you’d called “outdoorsy.” Topgolf clearly thought of patrons like me when they decided to add in sofas for those of us who wanted to kick back and chill while watching the others take their turns. And they have tables for those who aren’t as interested in cushioned seating.

3. Topgolf is set up much like bowling, but with golf clubs. It was so easy, my six-year-old came in second place overall! Each member of your party takes a turn whacking a ball into a target and you earn points depending on where it lands. You can see the points on a big screen. And little maps on the green where you tee off help guide your swing to get the most points.

4. My kids aren’t as lazy as I am, so while they waited their turn, they sauntered off to another area of the floor (within eyesight) to play Jenga and cornhole. If they wanted, they could have busied themselves at the large arcade on one of the other floors!

5. We ate dinner at Topgolf, and while I was imagining greasy bar food, I was pleasantly surprised with the diverse menu, including flatbread, quesadillas, hummus and veggies, spinach and goat cheese salad, and pulled pork sliders, just to name a few. Had we not been stuffed, we would have tried the injectable donut holes which…I don’t even have words to describe. “Yum” just doesn’t quite nail it. Also, there was a full bar which delights my fancy. My kids ordered Shirley Temples, I ordered sangria, and my husband was happy as a clam with a beer.

Topgolf is a fun family hangout, practically in my backyard, and I judged it for being a boring, stuffy place to roll my eyes at and complain about the heat. However, we had so much fun hanging out that we decided to purchase the Family Fun Pass so we can return multiple times this summer. The pass is $199 (or $99 if you complete two hours of play like we had), and it comes with several perks and a coupon book with freebies like pretzel bites, ice cream, kids’ meal, and a brunch entree. I’m a working mom, but all my babysitter needs to do is use my play card to have hours of fun with my kids. And, because the pass is for up to six people, my kids can invite their friends to come along with them!

I can’t say enough good things about this awesome summer activity. If you’re like me, you’re ALWAYS looking for fun, inexpensive activities for you and your kids to do in the summer. Without a doubt, this is a place my kids are going to enjoy for hours and hours. Signing up is easy on their website, and for me, didn’t require much thought. Score one for Mom!
