Last year was my son’s first year in school. I suppose that year marked my first year in school, too. There was a learning curve, especially around Valentine’s Day. I grew up in the ’90s, where a paper sack with small paper Valentines and tiny sweet treats were all the rage. Cut to 2019…The school asked each child to make a special shoe box decorated in all of their favorite things with a cut-out on top for Valentines from their classmates. Uhm, what! Learning curve, you see. So we sat down and cut out Lego Batman photos, hearts, and even got out the Cricut to make a name sticker for the top. I was all about non-candy Valentine’s Day treat ideas.
He was really into Paw Patrol at the time and Target had some paper cards on sale with red suckers. Done. When I presented these to my son’s class, I would later be called “the cheap one” by my husband. So if you’re anything like me and need just a tiny bit of inspiration for this year’s special Valentine’s Day party at school, please keep reading, especially if you need non-candy Valentine’s Day treat ideas.
Juice Box Robot
I don’t know which parent in the class made these, but they blew me away. I loved the idea and my son got a kick out of it. An Honest Kids’ juice box makes up the robot’s body and 2 Smarties make up his arms. Finally, 3 raisin boxes will complete the set with feet and a head.
Pencils & Erasers
We are always searching around the house for a pencil, so what better Valentine than to give a 4-year-old than StarWars pencils! They’re cool, useful, and best of all, my son is really excited to pass them out! We scooped them up at Market Street, but I have seen similar boxes at Target and the grocery store.
Trinket Toys from Oriental Trading Post
If you’re reading this now, you still have time to order off this website where toys come cheap and in bulk. My son’s favorite Valentines last year weren’t the ones with the candy as much as the sticky hands, the bouncy balls, and the slinkies.
Personalized coloring pages and crayons
How darling is this? It looks like it might take some time but if you’re feeling crafty, personalized pages for classmates to color is a win! It would work for ages 2-5! Click here for more DIY and non-candy Valentine’s Day treat ideas from CCMB!
