So, you’ve started thinking about private school. Maybe you’ve always wanted your child to have a Christian education. Maybe you had every intention of sending your kids to public school, but that isn’t working out the way you’d hoped (it happens!).
Dallas has a whole handful of private schools, a handful of Christian private schools. So how do you choose? What makes Trinity Christian Academy different? Private school isn’t free, so you want to KNOW you’re making the right choice for your children and your family. Let’s discuss.
Trinity Christian Academy (TCA) Fast Facts
- Located in Addison
- Co-ed, Pre-K through 12th grade
- Christ-centered community—”Developing the whole person for the Glory of God” (Col. 2:8)
- 11:1 student/teacher ratio in Lower School
- Low student turnover; active family involvement
At TCA, students find endless opportunities in a unique world of learning and discovery. Students learn compassion and community. They interface with technology. They see love, growth and support. They attend a school of faith and excellence and learn from teachers who are passionate about teaching and the subjects they teach.
The best way to form an opinion about a school is to take a tour.
Let’s assume we are talking about the Lower School for now, elementary ages. Are the kids allowed to be kids? What’s the discipline policy? Is this a colorful, child-friendly space, or is it more rigid? What is the recess situation? Studies show that kids learn best when they can get those wiggles out.
You’ll feel the good vibes at TCA as you walk through the halls. Teachers subscribe to a positive reinforcement model, rewarding good behavior. Kids learn to follow school rules while still having the freedom to be children. And TCA avoids outdated “sit still all day while teacher lectures” teaching methods. There are hands-on activities, engaging lesson plans, and plenty of opportunities to be active.
Will I get what I pay for as far as academic instruction?
YES.
TCA has 2 teachers in the room from pre-K to 4th grade, and an 11:1 student teacher ratio. More individualized attention means better focus and better outcomes. The bar can be set higher, and that’s a good thing. In the Lower School, they also offer a Learning Lab Program (to encourage and support kids with diagnosed learning differences) and The Reading Club (a reading support program headed by a specialist).
And as for the benefits of a Christian education…
Your children are in school for 7+ hours a day! That’s a lot of time to be exposed to outside influences, particularly during their formative years. If you’re looking for a spot that will pick up where you leave off, helping your children build a solid faith-based foundation in their youth, Trinity Christian Academy should be at the top of your list. Everyone remarks on the compassionate reinforcement of their faith by the teachers here.
My children have grown up in an environment of academic excellence where they have also been able to participate in multiple extracurricular activities (such as sports, fine arts, and leadership) all while Christ has been woven into each facet of their experience. – TCA Parent
Still curious about TCA? You have to check out this Q&A we did with a TCA mom who lives in Richardson. It’s so good (and it says it all).
