Who doesn’t love a good donut? With National Donut Day coming up, it’s a good time to sample some local shops to find the best donuts in Collin County! There are a lot of great spots, so we couldn’t possibly include them all, but here are a few places that our contributor team loves.
Max’s Donut Shop
This was the first donut shop I heard about after moving to the area. I had to see for myself what all the fuss was about, and I was not disappointed! What I love about Max’s is that they are just incredibly good “regular” donuts. They are not fancy because they don’t need to be. This is where you want to go if you are in the mood for the perfect glazed donut or chocolate-iced donut. They are always incredibly fresh and warm, and hit the spot perfectly. There’s usually a line here, so plan ahead!

The Donut Kitchen
The Donut Kitchen has some very unique options available. My favorite find was the Monte Cristo sandwich that uses donuts instead of bread. The combination of sweet and savory was to die for. The Italian wedding cake donut was also delicious. The Donut Kitchen has plenty of seating in a cafe atmosphere, so feel free to stay and enjoy your breakfast here.
Address: 7250 Virginia Pkwy. #140, McKinney, TX 75071
Sugarboy Donuts
The donuts at Sugarboy Donuts were both tasty and beautiful. They have multiple locations. We went to the Frisco location and tried several different kinds of donuts. The cream cheese & strawberry donut and the lemon donut were our favorite. You can request special orders and order a DIY donut decorating kit on their website.

Detour Doughnuts
Detour Doughnuts serves classic donuts daily and rotating specialty donuts each month. The rotating specials include more rich and exotic flavors, like dark chocolate passionfruit, salted caramel and sesame, fig and mascarpone, and a filled cookies-and-cream donut. The combinations they come up with are endless! They are open Thursday-Sunday, so plan accordingly.

Hurts Donuts
These are some fabulous gourmet donuts! You’ll find some completely unique flavors along with tried-and-true favorites. Their donuts are fairly large and filling, so you’ll want to share them with your family!
Address: 3288 Main St. #101, Frisco, TX 75033
Fat Straws Bubble Tea
Fat Straws has a completely different take on donuts with what they call “Chewy Puffs.” Chewy Puffs are Japanese-style donuts made with mochi flour. They come in many flavors ranging from chocolate to blueberry to matcha. They are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, and the perfect compliment to the dozens of beverages that they offer! Mochi donuts are not overly sweet, and unlike any other donut out there.
Address: 6509 W. Park Blvd. #425, Plano, TX 75093
Fresh Donuts
I LOVED the variety here. There were so many different flavor combinations you could get on yeast donuts, cake donuts, donut holes/mini donuts, and cronuts. There’s something for everyone at this shop! The Cinnamon Old-Fashioned Cake Donut was my absolute favorite.
Address: 1504 W. University Dr., McKinney, TX 75069
Cremcrittos Gelato & Pastry
Cremcrittos has a wide variety of pastries, including several kinds of cronuts, apple fritters, croissants, cinnamon rolls, and savory breakfast items as well. Portions sizes are generous, so bring a friend to share!
Address: 3755 S. Lake Forest Dr. #600, McKinney, TX 75070
