May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 :: Little Explorers is a STEAM program for ages 3-6 at the John and Judy Gay Library in McKinney. This month, kids perform simple experiments related to our five senses. 11:15am. Register here before you go – it fills up!
May 4 :: What a lovely idea for a beautiful spring day – Story Time in the Park presented by the Allen Public Library for kids aged 3-5. It’ll be held in the Pavilion at Celebration Park at 10:15 am. Books and games!
May 5, 12, 19, 26 :: Every Friday, the Heard Museum does Nature Story Time for little ones. It lasts about 30-45 minutes, beginning at 10:30 am. Story time is included in general admission and free for members.
May 6 :: Head to Haggard Park in Downtown Plano for the 14th annual Plano AsiaFest from 10:30 am to 5 pm. Experience cultures all across Asia from Japan to Nepal. This is a free event with food, music, performances, fashion, martial arts, a kids area, and more!
May 6 :: I hate to spoil the surprise since you would be the ultimate recipient of this gift, but Vetro Glassblowing is doing a cool thing for Mother’s Day this year. Help make a blown glass flower from 12-4 pm! See the link for details like what to wear and such. FYI, each flower takes about 10 minutes to make.
May 8-11 :: The Mighty Thomas Carnival is in town from Austin and setting up shop at Lake Dallas City Park. Discounted $15 unlimited ride wristbands for purchased in advance. $22 for wristbands at the door. You can pay for rides à la carte, but trust, you’ll want the wristbands!
May 12-14 :: The Allen Arts Festival is back at Watters Creek for Mother’s Day weekend this year. Live music and dance, a kids area, vendors galore…you know how art festivals do. Activities, parking, and admission are free!
May 13 :: Want to get old fashioned? The Collin County Farm Museum in McKinney is holding their first annual Collin County Rural Heritage Fair from 10 am to 3 pm. A free event! Craft stations for kids, farm activities, vendors with handcrafted goods, a little light basketweaving. Embrace that rural life!
May 18 :: Are you a mom who’s expecting or has had a baby within the last year? Collin County Moms Blog has an event you won’t want to miss! Join us on May 18th at Gather in Downtown McKinney for a fun night out geared specifically for new & expectant moms! Grab your ticket here!
May 19 :: Disney Sing-Along at the Allen Public Library for kids aged 3 and up. See who knows the songs better – you or the kids. 10:30am
May 19-21 :: These next two are Collin County-adjacent, but they’re fun ones. Taste Addison is a festival of art, artistic food, and music. Yummy bites, a kids area with face painting and inflatables, Vanilla Ice on the main stage… literally what more could you want? Kids under 12 get free admission and, hey, families get in free on Sunday!
May 19-21 :: Wildflower Festival at Galatyn Park in Richardson is also this weekend. Lots of live music and local food in a family-friendly festival environment. So much stuff for the kids – face painting, a butterfly tent, kids karaoke, bubbles, an obstacle course, and more. Check the link for all the bands and deets, plus how to purchase tickets.
May 21 :: This one is a bit different and fun – the Plano Symphony presents Bugs, Flowers, & Bees as part of their Family Symphony Sunday Series. Watch marionettes dance to “Flight of the Bumblebee,” “The Four Seasons,” and more. Pre-concert activities at 2:15, including the popular Instrument Petting Zoo. 3pm at the McKinney Performing Arts Center. Click the link for tickets!
May 24 :: Come check out the sensory obstacle course at the Haggard Library in Plano today at 10:30am. Kids ages 2-6 will have to use all five senses to reach the finish line!
May 27 :: With shorts and bathing suit weather hot on our heels, maybe you’re looking for a little more exercise-oriented family fun? Rock the Block at the Oak Point Park Amphitheater in Plano has fitness, fun, and food, with Fox 4’s Mike Doocy providing a little local celeb razzle dazzle. There’s a 10k, 5k, and fun run benefiting The Jim Utley Foundation, helping kids live drug-free.
May 27 :: This month’s Science With a Princess at the Sci-Tech Discovery Center in Frisco is Snow White-themed, which means the science behind mirrors, poison apple chemistry, mining for gems, and more. And Snow White will be there, but of course. Two different times available, recommended for PK-2nd grade. Pre-registration required!
May 27-29 :: SHINE Children’s Theater in Plano is doing “Annie, Jr” this weekend with several different showtimes to choose from. Click here for tickets!
May 27 :: Oak Point Park Amphitheater is hot this month. Tonight they host Sundown Cinema: Beauty and the Beast (the Disney animated one). Gates open at 7:30, and the movie starts at dark. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and coolers, but leave your pets at home for this one. Free!
