10 Places to Spend Grandparent’s Day Weekend in Collin County

Happy grandparents and granddaughter have a picnic outside for Grandparent's Day.Grandparents Day is on Sunday, September 8. It’s always a great idea to gift the grands a cute card from their grandkids, but our grandparents also really love getting to spend quality time with their kids and grandkids. From concerts and bingo to a baseball game, here are some ideas for places to spend time together as a family over Grandparent’s Day weekend.

1. Boardwalk at Granite Park 

Stroll the boardwalk at Granite Park in Plano. It’s a great place to bring grandparents, walk around the water, and eat at a waterfront restaurant. There is a pop up farmers market every month as well.

2. Concerts by the Creek 

Stroll through Watters Creek in Allen during its Concerts by the Creek series. These concerts are free every Saturday evening, starting at 7:00 p.m. Watters Creek also has a wide variety or restaurants and shopping.

3. Crayola Experience and Farmers Market

Visit the Crayola Experience in Plano and get a free ticket for a grandparent with another paid ticket on Saturday and Sunday. Willow Bend Mall also has a farmers market in the parking lot on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

4. TUPPS BOHO Market

TUPPS is a brewery in downtown McKinney. It will have a free, family-friendly BOHO market pop up with a lot of vendors on September 7 from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. From here, take an easy walk into downtown McKinney, and visit some of my family’s favorite spots: Mom and Popcorn, Fair and Square, and Neighbor Books.

5. Family Fest Picnic Music Festival

Bring your lawn chair and blanket to Red Tail Pavilion in Plano for the annual  Family Fest Picnic Music Festival. The show kicks off at 6:20 p.m. on Saturday with live neo soul and R&B music.

6. Family Photos at the Adriatica Village

The Adriatica Village is a picturesque shopping area in McKinney that was designed to feel like a European fishing town. It is a perfect location to take some family pictures and enjoy a meal together.

7. Music Bingo at the Holy Grail Pub

At the Holy Grail Pub in Frisco, you can join a game of musical bingo every Sunday evening from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. It’s free to play and sing along, but make sure to grab one of the delicious appetizers or dinners, too!

8. PGA Center

Visit the new PGA Frisco center over the weekend. From barbecue classes and putting practice to crafts and evening movies on the lawn, there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy! Costs and age limit vary by activity.

9. Roughriders Game

Bring your baseball loving grands to a Roughrider game in Frisco, and let the little ones play around the stadium. There will be family-friendly home games on both Saturday and Sunday of Grandparent’s Day weekend, with ticket prices ranging from $15 – $50!

10. Senior Center Events

If you live near a public senior center, check and see if it has any grandparent events over the weekend. Or even over the fall! Senior centers often have multigenerational events that are a lot of fun.
