Recently, I’ve noticed a lot of my friends looking for good book recommendations. Whether you’re laying by the beach, the pool, or hiding in your closet from the kids, there’s nothing better than a great page-turner. A good book is the perfection mental escape from the never-ending crazy train of 2020. So here are my top five favorite books from this past year.
The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine
This is the ultimate page turner with such a twist that I think I was gasping, crying, or cheering for large portions of the book. It’s hard to even describe much of this book without giving anything away, but this is the classic “planned-deception-nobody’s-life-is-the-way-it-seems” storyline. The character development is incredible and it has the most satisfying ending.
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena
This book is completely haunting to every mom as the plot unravels around a couple whose baby was abducted while they were at a party next door. Everyone seems suspicious and I was literally holding my breath in parts of this book.
Beholding and Becoming by Ruth Chou Simmons
If you would rather not bite your nails off and desire for your reading time to be a little more peaceful, I can’t suggest this book enough. My sister-in-law gifted me this book at Christmas and I had no idea how much I would need it in 2020. The Good Lord did. And goodness has it spoken to me. Ruth Chou Simmons has a gift for communicating Scripture. In this book, she shares how we can “Behold and Become” the person that God has designed us to be through HIS Goodness, Sufficiency, Sovereignty, and care for our lives. She is also a Mama of SIX (YES, SIX) BOYS, so she is completely relatable and real. This book has been such an inspiration and comfort this year. (Bonus: The artwork in this book is breathtaking!)
The Breakdown by B.A. Paris
Going dark again here…the beginning of this murder mystery is gripping and it’ll keep you guessing ‘til the end! The main character in this book passes by a car that has broken down on a stormy night, but doesn’t stop. She later learns that the driver was murdered and also happens to be an acquaintance she had recently met. Hooked yet? You will be! This is a must read!
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
At first I wasn’t going to list this book, because it has been a popular one for several years. BUT, for those of you that have missed the party: READ THIS BOOK. This satirical murder mystery highlights the lives and MANY personalities of four Kindergarten moms. This funny yet disturbing who-done-it is one that you won’t be able to put down until the end. If you can’t get enough, HBO has also turned this into a miniseries!
There you have it! I hope you enjoy some of these book recommendations and I’d LOVE to hear yours!
