If you’ve been near Pinterest or any home design stores lately, you know that copper is having a gorgeous moment! I’m not usually one to jump on a lot of trends but this one just kept catching my eye. The color is just different enough, but still fits with my other decor. I thought it would give a little spark to my living room. It’s a great color because it goes well with almost any hue. I’ve seen some beautiful kitchens in gray, white, silver, and copper. Living rooms in tan, brown, cast iron, and copper. Your choices are limitless; you can use it like a neutral or for a pop of color.

I’ve had several lamps for a few years and never really liked the marbling design on them, so it helped me be brave enough to paint them. I grabbed the candlesticks after I was done with the lamps because I was having so much fun I started hunting through my house for anything else I could paint.  

Spray paint is my go-to home decor hack. I love to paint things different colors because it can give new life to just about anything. Plus, it’s a cheap and easy way to update a room. I love that there is no need for a brush, and drying time is relatively quick. If you haven’t done a lot of home decor painting, this is the perfect place to begin!

I picked up some copper spray paint and couldn’t wait to start. The color on the cap is a little bit brighter than how it turned out, but that was perfect for the look I was going for. 

SPRAY PAINT QUICK TIPS:

1.  I started by carefully taping around the lamp where I didn’t want paint. Then I used some old rags to cover the rest of the lamp. 
2. The key with spray paint is to do several light layers. You don’t want it to start dripping. Start with the nozzle several inches from the surface you are painting and quickly move the can around as you are spraying so as not to get too much in one place.
3. Let dry for several hours. Depending on the weather, you may even want to wait a whole day to do the next layer, because the more humidity that’s in the air, the longer it will take to dry.
4. Add another layer using the same method as above. Depending on colors and surface you may need up to three layers. For these lamps, I used two layers. For the candlesticks, it took me three coats because I couldn’t touch and turn the candlestick without messing up either the top or bottom portion.
5. Let dry for several hours or days before putting up in your house. I put the candlesticks on my white fireplace mantel so I wanted to be very sure they were dry before putting them up. I did not want to have to paint over a copper colored ring later!
