One of my favorite holiday traditions with our children is snuggling up on a cold evening, enjoying warm hot chocolate overloaded with marshmallows, and watching a family-friendly Christmas special on TV. This year, however, I also look forward to experiencing the longest-running and highest rated of those classic tales live on stage!
RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER: THE MUSICAL, will soar into Dallas for a weekend visit to Music Hall at Fair Park November 25-27, for five performances presented by Dallas Summer Musicals.
I look forward to watching the wonderment in my children’s eyes as they watch the high-energy cast perform to the classic songs and dialogue that we all grew up, while also delighting in the newly added flying elements against their enhanced set and scenic design.
Producing partner, Jonathan Flom, says, “We address all of the familiar story elements from the television special with a talented cast and puppeteers who help recreate the magic on stage. Since the special itself is a classic musical, the stage show does not feel at all like an adaptation and audiences are surprised and delighted when they hear full performances of additional iconic songs associated with the TV special, such as “Fame and Fortune” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”
To refresh your memory, the story tells of a young Rudolph who flees Christmas town after he is excluded from the Reindeer Games because of the appearance of his bright shining nose. He meets up with new friends Hermey the Elf and Yukon Cornelius and together they find their way to The Island of Misfit Toys. Rudolph eventually journeys home where a snowstorm of epic proportions is threatening Christmas. I think you know what happens next, and if you don’t, I won’t spoil it!
I am so excited to share in this charming production with my family and think it’s the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. Tickets are sure to go fast, so make sure to grab them now!
