It came out of a conversation about cross-racial friendships. As moms, we can be so focused on creating diversity for our kids’ friendships that we miss out on experiencing that for ourselves in our own social circles.

Diversifying your social media feed can be a good place to start. There are incredible moms in the social media sphere contributing amazing things to the world who may not look like you. Here are nine Black mom Instagram accounts that you should definitely follow right now.

Sheenia writes inspirational and feel-good content over on her blog, Live, Love, Blossom. She is a mother and former educator turned lifestyle blogger based in Denton. She writes about self-care, self improvement, and marriage, and often shares playlists and affirmations for fellow moms to adopt on their journeys. Her blog is worth a read — you’ll be glad you did it. Sheenia also wrote articles for Denton County Moms.

2. Amiyrah Martin

Amiyrah is a homeschooling mom of three, a veteran, a fashion lover, a Star Wars fan aficionado, and a self-proclaimed Disney nerd. In addition to her blog, she shares frugal tips and fashion finds on her IG stories, TikTok, and YouTube channel. Amiyrah has been seen on GMA, CNN, Dr. Oz, StarWars.com, ABC News, and The Pioneer Woman magazine.

7. Porshia La’shae

Her passions are writing, movies, photography, and making videos about her life as a millennial mom. Her movie account posts discussion topics to have with your kids when you watch movies together.

I hope that as you visit these fellow moms’ accounts, you see some of yourself through their experiences. Even though we come from diverse backgrounds, there are many parts of our collective motherhood that look the same. The aspects of the journey that are different widen our perspectives and enrich our lives in a meaningful way.
